What do we do when God’s timing doesn’t look like we expected? In Week 3 of Exodus: God’s People Redeemed, Christi Davis walks through Exodus 3–4 and the calling of Moses, tracing the ways God is at work even when His people can see only a small piece of the story. From the burning bush to Moses’ questions and objections, we see a God who sees the whole story, keeps His promises, provides what His people need, and works according to His perfect timing.
And as God sends Moses to rescue Israel from slavery, Exodus points us toward an even greater rescue still to come. The God who revealed Himself to Moses as the great “I AM” was unfolding a story of redemption that would ultimately lead to Jesus Christ—the Son sent to save His people from their sins. When life doesn’t unfold as we hope or expect, Exodus invites us to widen our gaze, remember what we know about God, and keep watching for what He is doing in the meantime.

Where is God when He seems difficult to see?
In this Week 2 teaching from Exodus: God’s People Redeemed, Summer Lacy walks through Exodus 1–2, where God’s people face oppression, suffering, and the threat of death—and God often appears to be absent from the story. But a closer look reveals His providence quietly at work: fulfilling His promises, preserving His people, and preparing a deliverer.
From the courage of the Hebrew midwives to the preservation of Moses, we learn to train our eyes to see the God who is working even when we cannot yet see what He is doing. And as Moses’ story begins to unfold, it points us beyond Moses to Jesus Christ—the greater Deliverer who identifies with His people and is able to save completely.
The chapter closes with four powerful truths: God heard. God remembered. God saw. God knew. His people may not have known where He was or what He was doing—but God knew.

Why does the book of Exodus matter for us today? In this introductory teaching to Exodus: God’s People Redeemed, Summer Lacy sets the story of Exodus within the larger story of Scripture and explores why this ancient story is so foundational to our understanding of God and the gospel. From Israel’s bondage in Egypt to God’s powerful work of deliverance, Exodus reveals the God who sees, hears, remembers, and redeems. And as the story unfolds, it gives us a picture of redemption that ultimately points beyond Egypt to Jesus Christ—the One who accomplishes a greater Exodus and makes a way out for people who could never make a way out for themselves.
